Intolerance, hatred, violence, discrimination, stigmatization and prejudice against various minority groups such as ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and the LGBT community are the modern form of fascism which must resolutely be opposed by the state and all social activists.
Daily exposure to fascism undermines the integrity and dignity of every LGBT person in Montenegro and badly affects their self-esteem, sense of social belonging, and contributes to living life in fear and invisibility, concealment and suppression of their true identities.
Our society has not yet taken effective enough steps to develop an accurate understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity. Efforts to reduce juvenile homophobia have been completely absent. These efforts are particularly lagging in academic and educational institutions, among teachers, parents, students and student structures, even including the institution of the Ombudsman. Political forces, including those that represent a democratic alternative to the current government, in various (non-) formal ways, continue to promote stereotypical roles for women and men, and the idea that variations in sexual orientation are not acceptable. This causes additional concern and fear in the LGBT community.
International Day Against Fascism is an opportunity for everyone in Montenegro, especially the government, to be called upon the effective integration of universality, interdependence and universality of all human rights policies and practices. This is the only way to ensure the equal enjoyment of all human rights and reduce intolerance and violence in Montenegro, especially strong against the LGBT community.
LGBT Forum Progres call formal and informal supporters’ associations and groups to dialogue with each other. We are confident that this process can help convergence and stop further increases of hate and violence against LGBT people.
We call on the city authorities, particularly the capital, Podgorica, to remove graffiti which communicates hatred and promotes violence against LGBT people. Such displays, which if not eliminated, encourages the survival and further development of social homophobia. In the LGBT community, there is an interest to participate in a wider campaign to remove inappropriate content.
Svakodnevna izloženost fašizmu podriva integritet i dostojanstvo svake LGBT osobe u Crnoj Gori i loše utiče na njihovo samopouzdanje, osjećaj društvenog pripadanja i doprinosi životu u strahu i nevidljvosti, prikrivanju i potiskivanju istinskog identiteta.
U tim aktivnostima posebno zaostaju akademske i obrazovne ustanove, nastavničke, roditeljske, studentske i učeničke strukture, uključujući i instituciju Ombudsmana. To izaziva dodatnu zabrinutost i strah u LGBT zajednici.
